For Today, I Love The Serenity Prayer

THE SERENITY PRAYER:

"GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY...

to accept the things I cannot change,

the courage to change the things I can,

and the wisdom to know the difference,

JUST FOR TODAY!"

According to Webster's Dictionary, the meaning of the word serenity is "a feeling or state of being serene, tranquil or calm."

I like to think of the word serenity as being "peaceful."

God help me to be AT PEACE with "accepting the things that I cannot change."

There are many things that happen in our lives that we cannot control. We sometimes experience things that we did not create, but only have the chance to recover from or observe.

When we are going through these things we must always be thankful for what we do have and how we have truly been blessed in our lives. We also must accept what has happened and begin the steps of recovery.

God help me to be AT PEACE and have "the courage to change the things I can."

If we honestly ask ourselves "How Can I Make This Situation Better (?)" and follow through with the answers, we will find ourselves in a better place, because we have the ability to change things.

God help me to be AT PEACE that You will grant me "the wisdom to know the difference" between what I can and cannot change.

Doing the best we can do, with God's help, and having faith that it will work out can help us move forward. Having "the wisdom to know the difference" between what we can and cannot change can help us not get caught up in worry or be led down an incorrect path of response.

God please help me with this "JUST FOR TODAY."

So for today, MY prayer is this:

"God give me peace today. Give me wisdom and give me courage. Please give me these things so that I may accept what I need to accept and change the things in my life that I need to change."

This is so interesting. I always include the word 'serenity' in my communion with God...if we are at peace everything else seems to fall into place.

Always try to remember this one on a daily basis, Scott. That and to follow my orders from the Big House, not the crazy house I call my brain! Very nice hub. Have a great day.

One word, superb.

You took something that most of us have heard. After all The Serenity Prayer has circled the globe many times. But you made something very special of it, because it is very personal for a deep understanding of yourself.

Thanks

What a wonderful take on this popular prayer! How often we forget that all the help we need from Him is 'just for today'!

A good reminder for those "spiral-out-control" days. One more thing i try to remember, "There's nothing that God and I cannot handle today."

Nicely done.

Yes! I love this hub. Courage and wisdom are something I often pray for. They're a very rare pairing in a person, and it's rad to meet someone that prays the same way I do. That's awesome. And 79 fans after only two days! That's full on impressive.

Amazingly enough, my husband got his first Salesian solicitation letter, and it included a beautiful bookmark with the Serenity Prayer. I intended to incorporate it in the hub I'm trying to finish, but I'm wandering for a while...and I came across your hub. The Serenity Prayer is very personal to me as IT had guided me through my adult survival years--a constant reminder on how to keep things in perspective.

It is hard and painful accenting things you can not change knowing this things are wrong, but having God in your heart and mind will set you in peace.
